Tariqa Waters: Venus is Missing

Overview

Seattle-based artist Tariqa Waters was the winner of the 2023 Betty Bowen Award, an annual juried award that comes with an unrestricted cash award of $15,000 and a solo exhibition at SAM. That exhibition, Venus is Missing, was an exuberant entry in her innovative and multidisciplinary practice that pushes the aesthetics of commercial advertising into surreal, otherworldly territory.

My Role

I served as the Project Manager for the in-gallery design projects, working directly with the artist to understand her vision for the gallery. In collaboration with the designer and our vendor, we translated abstract concepts into tangible, design solutions that worked within our budget and production timeline. I also lead our video production for our exhibition walkthrough video featuring the artist.
